There are many factors that affect the overall success of each of our projects – proper planning being paramount. When it comes to creative storytelling, we’ve got that in spades – but the reality for us is the location of that effort requires our team to travel… and it’s my job to ensure that when they do that they’re where they need to be, when they need to be there, while paying utmost respect to our clients’ dollar.
The first priority is often booking airfare. Booking as far in advance as possible certainly helps control costs but sometimes things come together last minute, whether a new project or a change to an existing reservation.
Regardless, we must also weigh duration in addition to cost. Leisure travelers will usually endure layovers, early morning/late night flights in lieu of more comfortable / ideal travel times but the manner in which our employees arrive / depart matter as much as saving a buck...
When we jump into a city or town, local travel can take many forms – rental car, Uber/Lyft/Taxi, subway, train, etc., before we even consider the head in the bed.
Hotel brands these days have many more options than just a few short years ago for finding a room that’s both convenient and affordable – but also close to our filming location, subway station, or at times, the airport.
And then the reconciliation of each charge, for each trip, for each project, for each client is a chore. But it is necessary to further demonstrate our commitment to doing what we say we will, with each frame of video and each dollar which is asked for reimbursement.
By creating an environment for our employees on the road that they’re comfortable in, can recharge and be ready for whatever environment they walk into while not disregarding our client’s budget, we believe they will work better and harder to bring home the footage we need to deliver the best possible project to you, our most valued asset, our client.
